REVIEW USMeet Thomas Basch, MD
Dr. Basch has practiced comprehensive interventional pain management in Grand Rapids since 1994. He trained entirely at the University of Cincinnati, beginning with medical School (class of 1990), followed by surgical internship and residency in anesthesiology. It was during residency that Dr Basch developed his interest in pain management. At completion of residency, he was offered a unique opportunity to do research into how chronic pain changes spinal cord anatomy and neurophysiology within the mammalian central nervous system. However, after 12 months in basic science, Dr. Basch decided that clinical practice would be his forte, and took a position at St Mary's Mercy Health.
In 2003, Dr. Basch moved to Michigan Pain Consultants, joining Dr. Javery and his colleagues.
The economic climate surrounding comprehensive interventional pain management began changing in 2010. Those changes gained momentum over the ensuing 13 years, culminating in the closure of the area's largest pain management practices, including MPC.
The patient public's need for chronic pain management has nonetheless continued to grow, leading to the current pain care crisis. In response, Drs. Javery and Juneja have formed Grand Rapids Pain, and now, Dr. Basch is delighted to bring his 30 years of specialty experience to the practice.
Over his years in West Michigan, Dr. Basch has been named a Grand Rapids Magazine Top Doctor by both patients and colleagues multiple times. Foremost among his skillsets is diagnosing and treating complex spine pain, neuropathic pain such as RSD/CRPS, and restoring metabolic fitness and vitality in the face of otherwise debilitating pain syndromes.
As challenging as the care environment remains, Dr Basch will not compromise in his dedication to providing compassionate, personalized treatment to his patients. Many have seen him since he first began in Grand Rapids thirty years ago.
The medical profession has been a singular calling in Dr. Basch's family for three generations. In this day and age of increasingly corporate medical care, Dr. Basch takes great pride in practicing within the traditional, time honored bond between physician and patient.
